In A Minute

Updated: Aug 1

I have a problem. "Just a minute," I say to my kids, or "In a minute."

My youngest will roll his eyes, and sometimes quite rightly so because I had promised I'd already do it in a minute--a rather LONG minute ago.

But what does that have to do with today's devotional? Well, read on to see.

And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God. Luke 9:62 KJV

I used to think this was a little harsh. Why can't the dude go say goodbye to his family before he leaves everything to follow Christ?

Then I remembered I was having devotions at almost 1am because I'd completely forgotten to have it earlier. How many times that day must I have thought, "I'll have devotions after I check this one thing..."

And then I find myself endlessly scrolling through Facebook, having completely forgotten I only meant to be a minute. And now there was something else to do.

It's so easy to get caught up. So, easy to think, "I'll just be a minute." But Jesus says, "No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back is fit."

It is not surrender if you say "Yes, but in a minute."

So, there I sat in the middle of the night writing this devotional because I spent too many hours that day putting off what I should have done first.

While late is better than never, I can do better. God deserves better from me.

Let us not forget, let us not so soon turn aside. Let us serve Him now and not in a minute.
