All Things

Today, I want to ponder Colossians 1:16-17.

For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. Col. 1:16-17 KJV

When I typically hear this verse quoted people are referring to the physical 'visible' things: animals, plants, people, etc. We know that Jesus created the world. But He did more than just make it and walk away to sort itself out.

Jesus set up the governments, nations, rulers, law enforcement. Why? "By him, and for him." Jesus made the world and set up how it should be run.

But again, He didn't just create the governments and walk away. Some people think that.

They believe that God established the governments and then left us to work it out, and that's why the world is in such a mess. But verse 17 says, 'by him all things consist.'

God is still in control of those governments. It doesn't always make sense to us. And I'm sure Israel thought the same when God sent the Philistines and the Egyptians. And I am not saying that your government is a punishment for your wrongdoings. I'm only saying that, when you look at the 'thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers', don't see the people in power. See God.

He put those people there for His purpose. He is keeping them there to be used 'by him, and for him.'

If you see God, it's easier to obey because while I may not trust a person, I know I can trust God no matter what happens. Even if it's a lions' den.
